Billion Dollar Quest - About Me
I'm not going to bore you with useless details of my life. Instead I'm going to tell you the five things about me that are most important to this mission; five assests I have that are central to knowing 'me' and critical to completing my quest. But first the very basics.
My name is Alex Colket. I am 28, and live near Ithaca, NY with my wife Virginia. I first came here to attend Cornell, where I graduated with a BS in Neurobiology. For the three years after that, I worked as a teacher at a Montessori school while quietly developing The Show. And now here I am...
1) "You can do anything you try" - I remember little from my childhood, but I definitely remember hearing this over and over from my parents. at that age, I never took time to reflect on its meaning, but now I see how important that advice really was. You see, Im pretty smart, and mostly everything comes easily to me. While this may seem a gift, I think it was very much a hinderance for me for many years; when everything thing comes easily, you never learn how to work to achieve something. And so, for the first 20+ years of my life I got by on brute intelligence without ever learning how to make an effort. I was smart but lazy, intellectual but inactive. In the past 3-4 years though I have very much reversed that. I have since learned to try, and I am now working very hard to apply my intelligence in ways that would simply not be possible without considerable effort. I have added drive and determination to my repretoire and I now believe that "I can do anything if I try"
2) This is a bit of a corollary to my last point, but I think it warrants a seperate discussion. In presuming that I will be able to make a billion dollars in such a unique and visible way, I believe it is also safe to assume that I will acheive a certain degree of "greatness", whatever that means. This poses a bit of a dilemna, since I know many incredible people who will never be considered "great" or famous. Sometimes I think, "why, that's ridiculous to think that I could become the next great mind or the next great voice...I am only but one person on a planet of 6 billion". But realize that it has to be somebody - that each generation, a number of such people emerge, so why couldn't it be me? I bet that most of the people that we consider great, famous, or influential shared one fundamental similarity: the recognition that they had the potential to be so. I now share that recognition, which I think puts me a step ahead of the game.
3) I am generally a pretty smart guy, with a healthy and well-balanced mind. But there is one aspect of my mind that far outshines the others, and will be the most proximal cause of my success: I am a creative genius. My verbal skills are solid, and Im good with numbers, but Im no prodigy in those departments; however, when it comes to birthing new ideas, I would have to say I am exceptional. It is this skill that allows me to invent games in mid-sentence, or develop an idea like the Billion Dollar Quest in the middle of writing a totally unrelated email. It was because of this creativity that I knew - with certainty - that I could write cool computer games before I had ever tried to do so, and that I know I will write great plays and movies when the time comes to do that. Whatever I am doing, my creatvity chimes in and finds a solution.
4) Through my formal education and my personal exploration, I have developed a very thorough and valuable understanding of how my mind works. The more I learn about it, the smarter I become as I better 'understand' how to coordinate my mind and all its amazing abiltites. To whatever extent I can, I am trying to "master the use of my brain" and the more I work at it, the more intellectually capable I become.
5) Not to be forgotten is my kick-ass wife Virignia. She provides me with all the love, stability and support that a guy could need (also, she has also been carrying us financially since this began). Aside from my creative goals and my philanthropic urges, one of the main purposes of my work is to provide her, and our family with the financial freedom to live outside the constraints of a day job. This way we may enjoy our experience together to the fullest extent. Thanks Virginia!
