its all about BrainBall again

I am working fulltime on Season II now. I have replaced 6 of the tasks and added a few other features.

I am also working to make it harder to cheat as I have just revealed the season-leader as a cheater. In order to thwart future attempts at trickery, I am making a few changes:

1) as much as I can, reduce the advantage for a player that sees the game more than once in a day. in this game, there are 5 rounds that are much easier a second time around and 5 where playing a second time isnt that much of an advantage. In fact, this is one of the ways I identified the cheater; this player dominated in the 5 cheatable tasks and did far worse in the other 5
2) block an IP address from playing more than once a day
3) based on this experience, I have identified several factors that might indicate a cheater and I have written a program to search for potential cheaters and flag them for review….

kidbraingames.com is cool site of the day

kidbraingames.com is featured today as the” Cool Site of the Day” which means it will get several thousand visits instead of its normal 13. hopefully this will jumpstart things a bit.

In anticipation for this I added a new game to the site (Broken Words, like round 2 of brainball) and gave the portal and all the games a little facelift. with a selection of 7 original games, high scores, and passcodes that make the games ever-harder, it must be one of the best gaming sites for kids around… too bad no one uses it yet!

on a roll

coming off the heels of BrainBall, I have just released what I consider to be one of my best-ever games, Quadrants. I wanted to make a game in the spirit of Tetris and boy did I ever succeed…. such a simple concept yet so much room for strategy. Personally, I think it rivals Tetris, and that says a lot because Tetris is one of my favorite all time games.

now I am going to fix up a few problems with existing games before spending a couple days spiffing up kidbraingames.com in preparation for Cool Site of the Day on Wed.

BrainBall opens monday

Testing has been going well and I am confident that things will be up and ready by Monday… Really I could have it ready tomorrow but no need to rush since it makes more sense to start in the beginning of a week anyhow. Thanks to comments from my testers, I have spent the last couple days making minor improvements with instructions, gameplay and scoring.

The website will be done by the end of the day and there is really nothing more that needs to be done to BrainBall before it is released, so now I am just improving the interface and waiting….

Once I open this I will spend a couple days promoting it and trying to get as many inbound links as possible… I would really like to do something at nearby Cornell since it is full of computer-savy, smart, break-seeking students and also a good starting point to work my way into college circles. …all the while ill be watching closely to make sure no unfound problems pop up

After that I will spend a day or two improving kidbraingames.com (beef up website, make a new game) because it will be featured as Cool Site of the Day pn March 15 so I want it to be looking good for its big day

and then I will make a new game or two for playwithyourmind.com before getting ready for season II of brainball which will start April 10th
