Star Wars (1977-2005)
I am not going to try to pick any individual film from the Star Wars series, as they are all very good (with the exception of episode I). in its entirety, the Star Wars movie franchise is the highest grossing of all time and arguably the greatest cinematic achievement of the past 25 years. few – if any – other story has touched so many people or been done so well. the acting may be cheesy but the story is great, the Jedi concept is great, and the way the story was told over the course of the last 30 years is every bit as unique as it is effective. each of the movies work well independent of each other (there is no way I could name a favorite) and they work wonderfully as a unit. beneath the costumes and the battle there are meaningful messages about power, good vs. evil, and human character/emotion. the prequel ( documenting the development of Darth Vader) and the original trilogy (documenting the development of Luke Skywalker) represent of the most thorough character developments anywhere in film. really, the only problem with Star Wars is that we will probably never see episodes 7-9.
