in PC Magazine, again

apparently, someone over at PC Magazine really likes my site… after being reviewed among other online gaming sites last month, I have just been recognized in their “Top 100 Sites – Spring 2005″.

fun fun fun

who knows what will come of this… but I was sitting around last night, eating dinner and watching a movie with Virginia, when I got an unexpected phone call… from Hollywood :)

The woman calling was interested in helping to promote the Quest and my games through some sweepstakes, promotion by celebrities or strategic alliances with other companies…. Looking over her website, it seems as if she has a lot of potentially valuable experience and contacts, so this could work out well… or it could be a total dud, its tough to say. Ive learned by now not to get too excited about any of these things since you never know who is going to follow through with what they say and if they can really do what they say they can. In my experience with programmers, it is the most “qualified” workers that are most likely to bail on me and the smaller “guys” (with more to prove) that have been reliable…

anyway, its cool to get a hollywood contact, or at least a phone call. she said she could act as my hollywood liason “until Speilberg calls me”….. :)

more roadblocks

of course, nothing like this is easy … and so I have hit another snag. the business advisor I had been using is just not coming through anymore and I have to step back and start doing some more business stuff myself. so I have spent all morning reading through business advice and forums on the internet (which is all quite boring to me, but I suppose its useful to know about :) and assessing my different options..

basically what it comes down to is that I need some money or else I am going to have to find a job. so I have two choices (aside from the job, which I dont really consider a viable option).

a) work to get the paysite open and hope that it can provide enough income to relieve stress on business/personal finances

b) work to obtain some funding and put the paysite on hold for a little bit more until I have the time and money to do it properly…

b) seems like the wiser option so I am looking into that and the possibities there… but I am very unlikely to get money from a bank, I dont have any wealthy relatives, and I am yet too organized to receive formal investments, so things are tricky….

anyway, thats my goal for this week… to sort this out and have a plan for one or the other in place

syndicating this blog

I made a new blog specifically for playwithyourmind.com updates, and now I have figured out how to syndicate these blogs so now they will both be featured on playwithyourmind.com in some sort of latest updates section

i am doing it using this really easy tool I found. if you are interested in doing some syndication of a blog or podcast or whatever, you should check them out. it was quite easy to use.. did it in moments and worked on my first try

oh, and if you own a website and are interested in syndicating this blog, please let me know… Id love to see it get posted elsewhere….

podcasting

a few weeks ago I had never heard of this…. yet yesterday I spent a good part of the day planning podcasts. this is just the sort of thing I am looking to get involved in next – after the games – as I grow into an internet broadcasting entity instead of just a game site.

one day, people will subscribe to my “channels” (games, audio, video) just as you might now subscribe to HBO

anyway, came up with a bunch of ideas for podcasts, now I will ponder them further and decide which I might want to pursue first… I was thinking of making a bunch of pilot episodes and then letting you decide which to continue through a vote….
